Thing-A-Day: Looking Back

I have never really gone back to all my thing-a-day entries and picked out my favorites, so I thought I'd review a few for you here today. (This could turn out to be a very long post. I've forgotten a lot of the new things I did...)

If you have no idea what I'm talking about: I did one new thing a day for 7 months leading up to my 30th birthday last year. If you want to look back, click here.

#1 It Came From the Ocean
I will always remember trying octopus for the first time. Not because it was weird or disgusting. Because I was so dramatic in building up the courage. I fully expected tentacles to poke out everywhere. But they didn't, and the spicy octopus roll is still one of my regular sushi orders to date.

Flattering pic, no?

#16 Rest In Peace
Visiting my grandparents' grave. This held a lot of meaning to me.

I never outgrew the cheeks.

#26 They're Grrrrrreat!
It only took my entire life, but I finally went to see a Memphis Tigers basketball game in person.

#31 The Red Identity
I dyed my hair red. It looked soooo great at first. But then it faded. And, let me tell you, it takes a long time for *red* to go away for good.

#32 1Up!
My son still raves about these Super Mario themed corkboards I made for him.

#36 Get the Party Custarded
Come on, how much did you guys love my song (to the tune of Fresh Prince!!!) about frozen custard?

#44 Nose Way, Jose
I got my nose pierced. I loved it. (It got infected a few months later and was a beast to maintain, so I let it grow back. But I miss it. I might just do it again!)

#48 Time After Time

Time lapsed photography (by hand...) was pretty fun.

#53 Midnight with the Masses
First time going to midnight mass. I really enjoyed it.

#56 Golden Oldie
You guys know I'm nerdie. Click the link to re-watch me lip synching on You Tube.

#59 I Think We're Alone Now
I went to a movie by myself. Unfortunately, I picked the saddest movie ever.

#62 Scarface
I learned to tie a scarf 7 different ways. I still refer back to this post when I need to wear a scarf.

#106 Extra! Extra!
I set up a recycling bin at work. We are still recycling at work. Yay me!

#107 My Dog Chip
I got my dog, Thunder, implanted with a micro-chip. Everyone should do it. It's very inexpensive.

#113 Dirty Laundry
Tried & failed to make my own laundry soap. Laundry is my most hated chore anyway, so I probably wouldn't have continued doing that anyway.

#119 The Coffee Fairy
I paid for the car behind me in line at Starbucks. Another new thing I continue to do to this day.

#146 Hula Hoopla
I am pretty good at hula hooping. I'm not good at hula hooping with 2 at once. (click for video)

#149 Lights Out
We participated in Earth Hour.

#151 Melts In Your Mouth, Not in Your Chops
I ate M&Ms with chopsticks (just to see how I'd compare with the world record). There's video. Check it out.

#165 Fantastic Voyeur
I mimicked a photo project from theplug.net and left a disposable camera on a bench in Midtown.

#169 When It Rains It Pours
I learned how to change a wiper blade. Or I attempted to learn much to the entertainment of the Auto Zone employee.

#170 Hung Out to Dry
I started hanging my clothes on a line to dry. I love love love this. I did it all throughout the summer. I will pick it back up when the weather warms again.

#184 Baby, You're the Best
I kicked off my photography career with adorable pics of Mel's tummy full 'o baby.

#190 Party Animal
Mel & I attended a dance/fashion show at the Memphis Zoo.

#193 Speed Pacer
I drove the speed limit for an entire day. I find myself much more aware of my speed nowadays, and I drive the limit more times than not now. (Not all the time! I'll be honest!)

#217 Video Killed the Radio Star
I made a video blog. Click to watch.

I also attempted to change a flat tire ... twice. I did numerous science experiments with my son that made me enjoy science much more now than when I was a kid. I tried lots of different foods. I went to a few musicals.

Wow, I just took a major trip down memory lane. It was really difficult at times to do one new thing each day (and you can see that in some of the lame-o "new things"). It makes me miss the challenge & creativity of the project. (I'm currently doing 2 thing-a-day photo projects - random objects & self portraits - so all is not lost.)

I know it's been a while since you guys have read my thing-a-day's but if you have one or two that are your faves, tell me about it in the comments below!

Edited to add:
#156 Sweat Shop
I learned how to sew!! Err... well, at least I sewed one entire outfit, which is more sewing I've done in my lifetime. (Thanks, Mel!!)

I can't remember, but did you talk about when you made the dress for your niece on this blog? If so, you know that was my favorite because *ah-hem* I taught you how to sew in 1 hour. WOO HOO!! My favorite because I've never taught anyone how to do that. And the dress looked awesome! Now I need to make one for the Peanut.

@mel - You know, I caught myself specifically looking for that one at one point, but I got distracted. I'm going back to edit my post, b/c that was definitely memorable too!
